Aldino Sod Farms does not currently prepare or install sod for homeowners or
retail businesses. If you call our office at 410-879-8277 and contact our
office personnel, they will provide you with a list of recommended installers
and their contact information.
Below are universal sod installation recommendations to achieve optimum
quality.
Preparation
- Clean area of all debris
- Grade area to desired contours
- Four inches of top soil should be available - if not,
it should be added
- Use a Roto-tiller to prepare the soil to a depth of
four inches
- Have soil tested by County Extension Agent or other
local extension service.
- Fertilize and lime according to the results of the
soil test.
- Rake area to a smooth even surface
Installation
- Have the ground completely prepared before you order
your sod
- If you are not going to lay the sod within eight
hours, cover it with moist burlap or stack it in the shade
- Lay the first line of sod along a straight line such
as a driveway, sidewalk or string stretch between two stakes.
- Lay sod in a brick-work fashion
- Stake sod on extreme slopes
- Roll over sod with a roller to press roots to the
soil
- Saturate the area with water immediately!
One gallon of water in the first hour does more than several gallons later.
