Aldino Sod Farms does not currently prepare or install sod for homeowners or retail businesses.  If you call our office at 410-879-8277 and contact our office personnel, they will provide you with a list of recommended installers and their contact information.

Below are universal sod installation recommendations to achieve optimum quality.

Preparation

  • Clean area of all debris
  • Grade area to desired contours
  • Four inches of top soil should be available - if not, it should be added
  • Use a Roto-tiller to prepare the soil to a depth of four inches
  • Have soil tested by County Extension Agent or other local extension service.
  • Fertilize and lime according to the results of the soil test.
  • Rake area to a smooth even surface

Installation

  • Have the ground completely prepared before you order your sod
  • If you are not going to lay the sod within eight hours, cover it with moist burlap or stack it in the shade
  • Lay the first line of sod along a straight line such as a driveway, sidewalk or string stretch between two stakes.
  • Lay sod in a brick-work fashion
  • Stake sod on extreme slopes
  • Roll over sod with a roller to press roots to the soil
  • Saturate the area with water immediately!  One gallon of water in the first hour does more than several gallons later.
